Itinerary in Brief:
- Day 1: Arrival in Winnipeg
- Day 2: Winnipeg - Churchill - Nanuk Polar Bear Lodge
- Day 3-5: Nanuk Polar Bear Lodge
- Day 6: Nanuk Polar Bear Lodge - Churchill - Winnipeg
- Day 7: Departure from Winnipeg
Day 1: Anticipation Build during our overnight stay in Winnipeg
Arrive in Winnipeg, where you will enjoy a relaxing stay at our choice hotel—The Grand by Lakeview at the Winnipeg Airport. At 7:00 pm a dinner will be held at the hotel, where you will meet your group, your adventure specialist and your wellness guide.
Day 2: The Adventure Begins
You will depart Winnipeg for Churchill early in the morning on Calm Air International. Upon arrival in Churchill you will transfer to a private charter for your one-hour flight to Nanuk Polar Bear Lodge. Feel the distractions and busyness of everyday life fade away as you fly along the coast and spot your first polar bear.
Upon arrival at the Lodge, your hosts will provide a tour and show to your room to get settled. Lunch is served shortly after your arrival, and you will then be given an orientation regarding your stay in polar bear country.
Your first day includes an afternoon of exploring the coastline in search of the “Great Ice Bear”. Appetizers and cocktails are served at 6 p.m. and dinner is served at 7 p.m.
On your first evening at the lodge, Corrina will lead you through a yoga class followed by a guided meditation session to refresh your mind and body after a long day of travel. She’ll also introduce the other wellness activities available during your time at the lodge and provide you with a schedule for the days to come.
If it is a clear night you may also have a chance to view one of the spectacular aurora borealis displays common at this latitude.
Day 3-5: Wildlife, Wilderness, Wellness and Magnificent Photography
Start each day with a guided meditation followed by breakfast, generally served at 8 a.m. The day’s activities will typically begin around 9:30 a.m. If there are bears near the Lodge your tour may be delayed to take advantage of the photo and observation opportunities. The option is also always available for anyone to stay behind to take photos of the wildlife around the Lodge and relax.
The average day includes morning and afternoon excursions with lunch served either at the Lodge or out on the trail. Back at the lodge, Corrina will lead a group fitness class — yoga, Pilates or bootcamp — before dinner is served around 7 p.m.
Evenings will include another optional meditation session, informative lectures, slide show presentation, or leisure time. Staff will monitor aurora borealis after dark if conditions are optimal and will provide a gentle wake-up call to ensure you don’t miss any opportunities to witness and photograph this spectacular Arctic phenomenon.
Day 6: Last Minute Wildlife Viewing
After another hearty Lodge breakfast, we will begin air transfers back to Churchill. Have your cameras ready for the return flight as it affords excellent opportunities for great aerial shots.
Upon your return to Churchill, our representative will store your luggage. The balance of the day is then free for browsing the shops and exhibits of Churchill. Local places such as Cape Merry, the Port of Churchill, the Itsanitaq Museum, the Polar Bear Holding Compound (otherwise known as the Polar Bear Jail), as well as the Parks Canada exhibit are all of great interest.
Your flight south to Winnipeg will take place this evening and we hope to see you back at one of our Eco-lodges for more bear viewing very soon! Upon arrival, collect your bags, head out of the arrivals doors and back to The Grand Hotel for one last night.
Day 7: Homeward Bound
After a restful sleep you will pack your bags in preparation for your flight home, marking the end of your adventure and the beginning of a lifetime of savouring the experiences of the Arctic. We hope you leave with a few new tools to guide you along your wellness journey.
