Day 1: Arrive in Punta Arenas

Arrive into Punta Arenas for your preparation for your exciting Antarctic adventure!

Ahead of flying to Antarctica, you will spend a night at the elegant Hotel Cabo de Hornos in Punta Arenas. Here, you will receive your expedition kit, including rubber boots, parka, walking poles for the duration of the expedition, waterproof trousers, expedition backpacks and a water bottle. A dedicated Expedition Team will be on the ground prepare guests for the journey ahead.

Day 2: Fly to King George's Island

A first in the ultra-luxury cruise segment, you will fly to Antarctica in the equivalent of business-class comfort, saving two days at sea each way. Land at the Chilean base of Presidente Frey, which is normally used by scientists as they journey to the island’s research stations.

Day 3 - 7: Antarctic Explorations

With five full days in Antarctica, guests will enjoy an unprecedented level of flexibility aboard Silver Explorer, and an enhanced scope to discover each destination. From King George Island, you will explore the Antarctic Sound, the Antarctic Peninsula over three days, and the South Shetland Islands, before returning to King George Island once more.

Your expert expedition team will guide Zodiac tours, shore experiences, kayaking tours, and provide lectures on the region’s fascinating geology, wildlife and history to enrich the journey for guests. In addition to witnessing remarkable tabular icebergs, guests might witness penguin rookeries, herds of seals, pods of whales, and an array of bird species.

Possible landing sites:

King George Island, Antarctica –
This island has the most scientific bases in Antarctica and one of the few runways that can be used to fly in and out of Antarctica.

Antarctic Sound, Antarctica –
We will travel to see tabular icebergs in the Antarctic Sound. The Sound’s name was inspired by Nordenskjold’s ship, Antarctic, and several sites relate to the Swedish expedition. Here, vast continental icebergs usually rise out of the water like giant white-blue blocks. Depending on ice conditions, Zodiac cruises and a landing might be possible.

Antarctic Peninsula, Antarctica –
We will explore the Antarctic Peninsula from Silver Explorer, on Zodiac cruises and via landings, to see seals and penguin colonies. This promontory of land is the northernmost extension of mainland Antarctica. Your excursions will be expertly planned by the ship’s Captain and Expedition Leader, according to weather and ice conditions.

South Shetland Islands, Antarctica –
Several landing sites and remains of whaling stations can be found in the South Shetland Islands. This grouping of islands is 75 miles north of the Antarctic Peninsula and holds 16 research stations, which are run by Argentina, the US, Chile, Spain, and several other countries. Sites for activities will be selected based on weather and ice conditions.

Day 8: Return to the mainland

After 5 exciting days of exploration it is time to return in style and comfort on the 75-seat aircraft to Punta Arenas and enjoy one post-cruise hotel night.

Day 9: Depart Punta Arenas

This morning you will depart Punta Arenas for your onward journey.
