Day 1: Embark from Sydney
Complimentary coach transfers are offered from Wynyard Station to arrive at Coral Discoverer’s embarkation point in Palm Beach, Broken Bay at 8:30am. You will be met by the ship’s tender and transferred to the Coral Discoverer for a 10:00am departure.

Days 2-6: At Sea - Experiencing Sydney to Hobart Race & Highlights of the Tasmanian Coastline
This itinerary is designed to capture the best moments of the first few days of the Sydney to Hobart race and highlights of the Tasmanian coastline. The Captain will vary the itinerary to make the most of the weather windows of the mercurial southern coast, whilst keeping the ship as close to the racing action as possible. Throughout the expedition, we may make changes to the itinerary as necessary to maximise your expeditionary experience. Allowances may be made for seasonal variations, weather, tidal conditions and any other event that may affect the operation of the vessel.
Here are the expedition highlights:
SCENIC COASTAL CRUISE
Cruise the scenic coastline from Sydney. Dependent on weather, stops may include Jervis Bay and/or Twofold Bay. As you cruise, our guest lecturer will present commentary on the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race and lectures on yachting and maritime history.
BASS STRAIT CROSSING
As we sail through the Southern Ocean, enjoy presentations, spot yachts, or relax on deck and enjoy the vastness of the Bass Strait.
MARIA ISLAND NATIONAL PARK
Maria Island is referred to as a Noah’s Ark for native Tasmanian species. It is one of the best places in Australia to observe endemic birdlife as well as wombats, Cape Barren geese, Bennett’s Wallabies, and pademelons. Observe the rich history with a stroll amongst the remnants of the Darlington convict settlement, or take a walk to the striking Painted Cliffs.
FREYCINET NATIONAL PARK & SCHOUTEN ISLAND
The Freycinet Peninsula is a dramatic headland dominated by a pink-hued granite mountain range called The Hazards. Join a guided hike along the Isthmus Track and be rewarded with magnificent views from the lookout, or swim and kayak the azure waters of Wineglass Bay. Visit Schouten Island to kayak and beachcomb, and cruise close to Ile des Phoques to see colonies of fur seals sunning themselves on the rocks.
PORT ARTHUR HISTORIC SITE
One of Australia’s most significant historic places, the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Port Arthur penal colony housed convicts for more than 40 years, before its iron doors clanked shut in 1877. Join an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour with local guides.
HOBART
Arrive in Hobart on 31 December 2020 in time for the Sydney to Hobart race celebrations on New Year’s Eve. Stroll Hobart’s historic wharf. Enjoy farewell drinks with the Captain, and welcome the New Year with a view of the fireworks display over the Derwent River.
