Day 1: Arrive to Lord Howe
Welcome to Lord Howe Island, the World Heritage-listed paradise! Upon arrival to the airport you will be met by a representative who will transfer you to your home for next 6 days.
Unpack, get settled, and enjoy the rest of the afternoon at your leisure. Perhaps a short stroll to Lagoon Beach to work up the appetite before you enjoy a delicious dinner at Arajilla restaurant.
Day 2: All Corners of the Island Tour
In the morning you will be picked up to join an informative island tour. More than a tour, this is a 3 hour and 30 minute journey through the island from early settlement to the present day and all the wonderful things in between. A great introduction on what, where and how to do Lord Howe. What are the best walks? Where do you get the best photos? The tour includes visits to the local school, Government House the hospital and the Catalina monument.
Your tour guide will point out many of the island’s ever-changing sea and land birds. The island’s rare bird the endemic Woodhen and Kentia Palm. Learn all about the island’s social history, early settlement, predators and pests, flora and fauna, ships, flying boats and the airstrip, island tales and even buried treasure!
Day 3: Around the Island Cruise
After breakfast join a fascinating cruise around the island. Sail on ''MV Lulawai'', built on the island for the late Roy Wilson in 1969. This beautiful vessel was purposely designed for the Island's waters and with a complete rebuild in 2010 she is the perfect vessel to showcase our beautiful island.
The 2 hour cruise enables passengers to relax and enjoy the breath-taking views all around Lord Howe Island including the spectacular image of Balls Pyramid creeping up in the distance and sheer mountain cliffs. During part of the 2 hr cruise you will approach the 'Admiralty Islands' which are home to a large percentage of the Island's bird population.
Day 4: North Bay Turtle and Nature tour
Another adventure awaits as you join a 3.5 hour tour to North Bay today. This complete tour starts on the water, where you get to view large variety fish, turtles, stingrays and amazing corals of the world's southern most barrier reef on our glass bottom boat. Enjoy the relaxed commentary on the Islands history & marine life through the eyes of young Island based team, as you cruise slowly to the beautiful North Bay.
While exploring North Bay you can climb up Mt. Eliza, walk to the Old Gulch or Herring Pools, view the sea bird rookery (seasonal), swim or just sit and laze the day away. Or you can go for an optional walk along the beach where you are able to get up close to some of the Islands Migratory seabirds, have numerous photo opportunities and learn about the unique history of the Bay.
Day 5: Day at Leisure
Today is at leisure and an opportunity to do some independent exploring, or just relax.
The best way to explore the island is on the bike. Grab your snorkelling gear and head to discover some of the secluded spots on the island.
For fishing enthusiasts sport and recreational fishing is rated among the best in the world on Lord Howe Island, so a fishing trip would be a great experience!
If you are a keen diver Lord Howe won't disappoint! The island’s unique marine ecosystem hosts a diverse mix of tropical, sub-tropical and temperate species which is found nowhere else on earth; there are over 90 species of coral and 500 species of fish inhabiting the reef. Lord Howe’s underwater topography of trenches, caves and volcanic drop-offs adds to the awe-inspiring diving experience at the island.
For active adventure we recommed a hike up Mt Gower. Also known as a Big Hill, is the highest mountain on Australia's subtropical Lord Howe Island in the Tasman Sea. With a height of 875 metres above sea level, and a relatively flat 27-hectare summit plateau, it stands at the southern end of Lord Howe, just south of the island's second highest peak, the 777-metre high Mount Lidgbird, from which it is separated by the saddle at the head of Erskine Valley. Ascending Gower entails a popular, guided, strenuous 8-hour return hike, though no special climbing skills are needed. The mountain is covered with rainforest, including cloud forest at the summit, containing many of the island's endemic plants.
Day 6: Depart
Today you will be transferred back to the airport for your departure flight.
